“Illegal immigrants are just hard-working people who want a better life.” —

This argument is stupid and insulting.

I, too, am a hard-working person who just wants a better life. The difference is: I don’t break federal laws to do it. I don’t trample the sovereignty of any nations in my quest for middle-class status, and I certainly don’t expect sympathy or scholarships based on my criminal status.

Obviously, America is the best place to live. Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate everyone. There is a process in place for people to come here if they so desire. If they are not able to comply with that process, well, sorry. There’s a process in place for me to get into Harvard Law, too, but I accept that I probably wouldn’t make the cut. We don’t all get the best life we can possibly imagine.

Just admit you want a flood of illegal Democrat votes and be done with it. No other argument holds water.

Oh, shut your holier-than-thou face. You are not some sort of superior being because you mother’s vagina came from a long line of vaginas that happened to be geographically placed within the imaginary borders that are the United States. Your “legality” in this country is simply because of luck, nothing else. Quit acting as if you are more deserving of the right to live because of that luck.

This country has made a fortune raping the resources and exploiting the people of Latin America. And soon after this countries picked all the Chiquita Bananas it could pick it replaced all the deforested land with the American maquiladora. With treaties like NAFTA, American corporations reaped the benefits of the exploitation of women and children. Yet, I see no American citizen that is outraged about immigration complain about the wrong-doing that this country has done to Latin-America (or that world for that matter).

The job market in Latin America does not exist. You cannot support entire families with the little money American corporations pay their employees. THAT is why people migrate to the US because they need to work shitty jobs and put up with racists like you in order to survive.

get off your high horse kid.

Update: 11 year old trans girl lost appeal → translate.google.com

transawareness:

The above article is an update.  Her mother went to appeal to keep her out of the psychiatric ward and lost.  She will be institutionalized because of her expression of her gender.  She will be held until she conforms to male gender and then released to foster care, not her mother who was supporting her.

Please, if you haven’t signed the petition, sign it, reblog it, ask your friends to sign it. We’ve managed to get 40K signatures for a pageant model, we’ve only gotten 11K for a little girl about to have her life ruined.  Lets get on the ball and spread the word.

Sign It.

I literally just repeated the f-word until I ran out of breath.

Let me catch my breath. I may go on a cursing spree again as soon as I get it back.

Seriously people…

WHY THE FUCK AREN’T PEOPLE REBLOGGING THIS??

Regarding the Elementary preview.

I can honestly say that I’ve been sitting in the “give it a chance” camp, with a fair dose of “uncomfortable and skeptical because of the production politics.” I’ve been avoiding posts that loudly and colorfully denounce the show before we know anything about it, because that’s not really fair to the people working hard on it, and so on.

But I just watched the preview. And I have to say.

That was the most tasteless thing I have ever seen.

What makes our version so interesting is that it’s set in modern day? I’m sorry, what an absolutely shameless thing to say, without so much as a nod or a reference to BBC Sherlock. Yes, setting Doyle’s stories in “contemporary” times has been done before Sherlock, but you’re doing so in response to the success of such a production, and what’s more, you’re doing it while that show is still running. In fact, you blatantly asked them to remake their show, and they said no.

And now you really have the guts to release a preview bragging about the modernization concept, as if it were your inspiration?

What’s more, absolutely every—and I mean every—production comment in that entire preview was a stripped down version of insights that we’ve been listening to from the BBC crew, or extremely hollow you’re-not-quite-getting-it echoes of Holmesian truisms, or they were disgustingly troped-down assessments of the caricatures characters.

Don’t even get me started on “Watson.” That is, the character who has absolutely nothing in common with the character of Watson (besides “coming from an emotional place”; ugh), but just happens to share the name. I guess a female veteran and (license-holding, tyvm) doctor was TOO MUCH for them to handle. The fact that she is a “hired sober-companion”- I had to let out a very long, slow breath. I’m so angry that I’m seeing white.

The last shot in the preview more or less confirmed my fears that casting a female “Watson” was merely license to step up the flirtation without having to worry about The Gay. So not only is our female Watson so watered down as to be unrecognizable, she was blatantly cast to create socially acceptable sexual tension. (Read: sexual tension that sells in America.)

And is it just me, or is CBS’s interpretation of Sherlock’s character a cheap, knock-off CLONE of the BBC Sherlock? The Doyle Sherlock, while eccentric and sometimes harsh, is, in general, a very polite character. He’s certainly delicate when interviewing victims of trauma—as much as he can be, anyway. Part of what’s interesting about the BBC version is their exploration of an “early days” Holmes, who is still young, rash, and unrefined. It’s actually an incredibly unique and brilliant interpretation of the character—this sort of out-of-control, savant-ish, pathologically unempathetic character who needs Watson to tell him when there’s sarcasm in the room—and CBS blatantly copy-and-pasted that interpretation. To extremely annoying effect, I might add.

Seriously, the scene where CBS Sherlock is interviewing that choking victim and gets absurdly insensitive, which results in Joan Watson jumping out of her seat and crying stop, looked like REALLY, really bad fan fiction come to life.

I hope the BBC sues CBS for every penny they’re worth. Scoundrels.

ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, can y’all just stop whining for a moment?, just for a moment?, little did you know that on the set of Elementary they have a shrine dedicated to BBC Sherlock that they worship to and pray at daily, there’s a huge poster of benedict cumberbatch and martin freeman that they are required to kiss 3x/day, i’m tired of this PSF honestly, you all are the worst, somehow y’all know better than anyone else about Holmes to the point where you can whether or not characterizations are hollow, so BBC Sherlock is perfect then?, OMG AND STOP WITH WATSON, that argument is so fucking tiiiiiiiiiired, how many times have people had to say that homoerotic subtext that is never acted upon and always denied is NOT progressive?, that it DOESN’T celebrate queer sexuality at all?, Lady JOAN Watson has come to ruin all The Gay, as if it really existed in the first place, stop using her as means to whine over the potential lack of slash, furthermore WHY ARE YOU ALL HARPING OVER HER STORYLINE, all these assumptions about why CBS did this or that, as if we’ve neverrrrrrrrr seen a strong female character (bs btw) on American TV, apparently that’s only a British thing, I need y’all to realize you don’t know much at all about this show, and that every time you say that JOAN Watson exists just to create sexual tension, YOU’RE being sexist or internalizing sexism, Quit with all the faux-concern honestly, What you hate is that this isn’t BBC Sherlock down to the color of Holmes’ socks, and you’ll find every way to say it except by JUST SAYING IT, also does the BBC have a copyright on Holmes?, you do know BBC Sherlock is an adaptation as well right?, ugh, anyway cry more tears.

All the tags!

We like our BBC Sherlock’s pressed fandom tears the way we like our watermelon juice: fresh, cold and oh so sweet!

Why I sideeye white people adopting children of different races → queennubian.tumblr.com

theuppitynegras:

thisisnotafrica:

queerhairyvag:

catieissomethingcreative said: I kinda think that if you’re white and going to adopt a non-white child, you shouldn’t be a dick about it. That’s really it. Don’t congratulate yourself, don’t brag about it, just be a fucking parent.

———————————————————————————————————-

that bolded sentence is the whole reason I side-eye white people wanting to adopt POC kids.

what is being ‘just a good parent’ to you, is massively different to the experiences of POC parents.

you might think you’re doing all the rights things, but as a white person, you dont realise half of what you are doing isin’t ‘just being a prent’, it’s doing a lot of ‘white parents things’ that would most likely not help the POC child at all.

you cannot just be a parent when it comes to white people having POC children. you need to go above and beyond if you are seriously considering doing this.

whites need to realise its absolutely not okay for them to only have white friends, go to white parent-toddler groups, white this, white that, watch a lot of white tv, read a lot of white fairy tales to kids, not pay enough attentkion to the things the child is taking in daily (which is mostly white things unless white parent intervenes big time) it

means not taking shit at face value when white teachers say your child acts this/that way (because a lot of the time, there is racism behind this)

it means not just occasionaly saying hi to a POC parents or letting your POC child go to some random POC event as if that’s enough. it means CONSTANTLY making sure the child is lviing in a world where they need never feel inadequate about their skin color, it means always being best friends with POC people, events, things, life, always looking up things about white privilege and not taking the opinions of white people more than POC when it coems to the safety of your child, especially when that other white parents do not have a POC child.

if this shit is too annoying or difficult for white people to do, then they having been thinking about raising a POC child in ‘the white way’ this whole time and they need to seriously rethink anyoutrageous ideas they had about adopting a POC child, especially if they actually think the child’s race has ‘nothing to do with it’

this is not just a child you’re looking after, you’re bringing up a POC child in a white world and you can do so much damage and make the child end up hating their race/skin color and having a whiteness mindset which can cause all sorts of fucked up complications in their years to come.

if white people cannot handle this fact, they need to stop considering getting a POC child, because its not as easy as raising a white child.

Just to add about this excuse:  “there are POC children in desperate need of homes right now, is it so bad for white people to adopt them!?”

if you want to adopt POC children, let go of whatever whitepreconcieved ideas you had about raisng white children and reallylook into your white privilege so it doesn’t affect them as they grow up.

otherwise, you’re adopting them for purely egotistical and ignorant reasons that will later damage the kid.

Sometimes the best way to help is to do nothing. Because you might end up f-cking up sh-t worse than before.

For the last time, can BBC Sherlock whiners get it through their thick skulls that using ‘homophobia’ as a critique when NO CANONICAL GAY RELATIONSHIP EXISTS is ignorant and disrespectful as ALL FUCK? Like to people who live with real homophobia, not slash fans who’s headcanon has been slighted. Geez.
