Merlin Racebend → Idris Elba as Uther

merlinsbutt:

“I know you will make me proud, as you always have”

A device that lets you talk to the dead!

Merlin: Oh wow, I'd love to talk to my father, seeing as I only had that one day before he got killed because of Uther's laws
Guinevere: Oh wow I'd love to talk to my father, who got killed by Uther's guards
Morgana: Oh wow I'd love to talk to my father who got killed in service of Uther
Mordred: Oh wow I'd love to talk to my father who got sentenced to death by Uther
Great Dragon: Oh wow I'd love to talk to anyone of my family because I've been missing them since Uther committed genocide against them
Arthur: I MISS UTHER SO MUCH

I had mixed feelings for the upcoming episode of Merlin

mellysworldofdreams:

I am officially not excited, even if we do get to see Arthur save a sorceress. But the fact that Gwen will be dragged around by Uther’s ghost without getting to defend herself doesn’t sit well with me.

They never dealt with Uther slapping her across the face. He has done so many horrible things to her and now this. I am sorry for my negativity. I really want to be enjoying Merlin. But this is not ok.

The writers give us stories without dealing with them, without payoff for the victims. That is not good writing. That should be basic writing. I find it unprofessional and it really bothers me.

And they keep subsuming the women’s stories under Arthur, Merlin and Uther. It’s like they erase all the women’s stories/agency for the sake of more screentime for Arthur and Merlin, then all we get is cheap banter and queerbaiting.

I’m so sick of it. When I say I only watch this show for Angel Coulby, I’m not just making a stan statement. I really fucking mean it. They don’t give her speaking lines or screentime means they don’t get my viewership.

Can I ask why Ozai/Katara fanfic exists? For that matter, why does Ozai/anyone fanfic exist??

Unless you’re writing an AU, or reflecting on his relationship with Ursa, why would you feel the need make this man, this genocidal, megalomaniac, abusive, controlling tyrant into a romantic hero?

Is it because he’s ripped? I forgot how well defined musculature excuses all evils.

WHY.

Please explain this to me.

There better not be Uther/Gwen fic out there.

#ozai #uther #now there’s two sides of the same coin if you ask me #ship them together

omg I was thinking the SAME THING reading that before I saw your tags.

SERIOUSLY. HOW CAN ANYONE HAVE ENOUGH EMPATHY FOR THEM TO SHIP THEM WITH SOMEONE LIKE THAT, making them into heroes or some shit. Let alone ship them with people they’re actively oppressing ufhguihkgjhnGROSSNO.

Ship them together. And then let them fall in volcanoes. While everyone stands around and cheers.

I JUST DON’T GET IT. Well, I kinda do, light-skin able-bodied men in positions of abusive power makes Tumblr wet in the panties like no one’s business.

So should it be Ozuther? Uthai?

I’m sailing it.

THEY DESERVE EACH OTHER.

They can sit around and blame everyone else for why their kingdoms hate them and their wives died.

Uther and Ozai?  This ship sails itself.  They even have child abuse in common.

RIGHT???

I can just see it now:

“So then I had no choice but to chain her up and throw her in the dungeons obviously - ,”

“Spare the Agni Kai, spoil the child is what I’ve always said.”

“I’m so happy someone understands.”

Ozuther for the WIN

Fuckers.

I find the way the show deals with mind control disturbing. Most of the time, taking away a character’s free will leads to “funny” situations, like Arthur declaring his love for Vivian/acting like a simpleton, and Uther bedding a troll. But sometimes, lack of agency is just a convenient plot device. Are we supposed to be happy Gwen didn’t willingly betray Arthur? This show and its implications sadden and disgust me, as does (part of) fandom’s response.

I HATED, HATED the Arthur mind-wipe thing Merlin did at the end of S4. It was the feeblest of feeble plot devices and it took away the seriousness of the situation completely. It was awful. I usually manage to suspend my disbelief pretty strongly with this show but that bit was just lazy and poorly executed and made me angry.
