Merthur forever and always!
To that delightful person who tried to be clever about my edit, if you were a true Merlin fan you wouldn’t ‘insult’ other peoples posts about Merlin. Just so were clear she’s second best to him at everything, got that?

Thanks for the anon hate! But you still don’t know the meaning of “second best” now do you? And that’s what I was critiquing.
If I were a true fan of Merlin?

Oh sweet summer child you have no idea.
PS: you can totally ship Merthur without throwing Guinevere under the bus, its totally possible.

I’d be inclined to take you more seriously if you weren’t using an MS paint font and your caps lock usage was consistent.
At least throw some quality shade! smh

Let be honest

dragontrolling:

These past few episodes have just given haters a “legitimate” reason to hate Gwen. Before she was “too perfect” “annoying” “a mary sue” “there’s no chemistry” which are reasons to, not be particularly fond of a character but to actually hate? Naw man! but now that she’s “evil” working with Morgana, trying to kill Arthur; she’s framed Merlin, and killed Samwell Tarly, its all the perfect storm to call her a “filthy whore” a “bitch” who should “die” It doesn’t matter that she’s under Morgana’s control, in fact I’ve seen so many posts claim that despite Morgana’s hold on Gwen, she’s still a bitch. So basically they’ve always felt this way, young women have always thought Guinevere was a bitch, a whore, and an evil cow.

Also I need to make a point that the writers, showrunners, TPTB are playing these people like a violin, it hilarious and sad, they bait them so hard, and then they fall for it, hook, line, and sinker. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such thirst in a fandom before.

This post is dedicated to all those people who don’t believe that there’s irrational Gwen hate; to those who don’t believe that fans use any excuse they can to hate Gwen; to those who don’t think that the hatred of Gwen has anything to do with sexism; and to those who don’t think that the disregard for Gwen’s mental health and safety—and the propensity to seeing her abused, killed, and/or erased from the series’ narrative—has very problematic and insidious ideals supporting such sentiments.

This one’s for you!

Gwen has spent four series (approximately EIGHT YEARS) irrevocably and unconditionally in love with Arthur, even when he upset her and even when he treated her poorly. Gwen put her life at risk countless times to save Arthur and protected him as well as someone without magic could. It has been established that Gwen would never willing hurt Arthur. She would also never hurt the other people she loves, like her best friend, Merlin. Remember how she threw herself in front of him and fought off the Lamia for him?

Well, last week, Gwen spent much of episode 5x06 being physically, emotionally, and mentally tortured by Morgana. Let me repeat, she was tortured with magic. T-O-R-T-U-R-E-D with magic. There were many people in the fandom who did not express any regard for Gwen’s ordeal and wondered at the end how she could just betray Camelot and Arthur, even though it was clear that her mind had been twisted by Morgana.

This week, Gwen spends 5x07 attempting to kill Arthur because she’s being controlled by Morgana. Merlin and Gaius even express that they suspect that something happened to her in the Dark Tower to make her behave this way. They both know that Gwen isn’t herself. Merlin happens to know what that’s like, considering that in a Servant of Two Masters, he too had no control over his actions and tried to kill Arthur multiple times. If not for Gwen and Gaius, Merlin wouldn’t have been saved.

Instead of fans expressing that Gwen needs to be saved and that they feel sorry for her because she’s doing terrible things that she wouldn’t normally do, I keep stumbling on posts like these in the tags:

TRIGGER WARNING: Misogynistic language, violence against women, abuse, slurs.

You are all so fucking simple aren’t you? Gwen is CLEARLY under the control of Morgana and you call her a bitch and say how you want to kill her. You didn’t say these things when Merlin was under Morgana’s control trying to kill Arthur. So fucking simple…

Simple is too kind a word for these rancid brats. They just enjoy the taste of sexism and white diq too much.

CAN WE JUST STOP LASHING OUT AT EACH OTHER AND COMPARING WHOSE FANDOM IS “SHITTIER”?

There are DEATH THREATS BEING SENT

over SHIPPING

what is happening to our fandom?

Can’t we just pleas enjoy/or suffer from the show and each ship their own without attacking each other?

We can have opinions, and be passionate about them, without attacking people who think differently!

I think being DECENT HUMAN BEINGS  is too much to ask!

And before someone gets all bitter now: yes, I’d say the same if Merthur shippers would send death threats/I’d come upon any disrespectful behaviour from one of my-or any!-ships, so don’t say it’s only because Merthur fans are in the crossfire.

It’s just making me physically sick… why does this ugly downfall happen to every fandom?

ColdCon - Afternoon Session (03/11/12)
Bradley James, Eoin MackenTom Hopper and Alexander Vlahos

Bradley James spoke to the fans through Skype. He answered a few fans questions about what he’s doing in the States, and a bit about the relationship between Merlin/Arthur and Gwen/Arthur

BEST BEST BRADLEY JAMES IS THE BEST!!

MUAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

“For Arthur, I think when you find someone in your life who you love more than anything, you will do anything for them.”

I still don’t really ship Arwen anymore BUT

did anyone notice how the fangirls here make sad noises when Arthur talks about Guinevere? Like oh noooo don’t say Arthur actually LOVES the woman who’s counselled and supported and been there for him nooooo

AND

they keep yelling ‘merlin, merlin!’ when Bradley’s trying to say ‘Arthur would do anything for Guinevere’

And these bishes wanna step to Arwen fans talkin about HEY LET’S BE NICE DONT BE SO MEAN

Fuck you you fetishizing sexist racist fapp-festy douchefucks and your fappy white dude queerbaiting ship that’s dragging this whole show down like a pile of steaming mouldy goat cheese

Back when I was an Arwen shipper we endured years of y’all throwing Bradley’s words around like it was the fucking Holy Writ, and now you wanna talk to Gwen/Arwen fans about being ‘nice’ and not ‘gloating’?

whenever I see people in the merlin tag hating on uther it always makes me really sad

especially after this episode now everyone really hates him and I’m like: NOOOO WHY DON’T HATE HIM

like c’mon uther’s a fascinating character like he hates this sorcerers so viciously but he loves arthur and ygraine so much.

HE MAY BE TERRIBLE TO MAGIC USERS but you can never say he doesn’t love Ygraine and Arthur

Very much agree on much of this.  Uther is more complex than anything really.  He is not some black and white villain.  I once made the er…mistake?…of slightly comparing Gwen now to Uther because I think she has a strong sense of rule like he did.  And right away it was seen as an insult.  But I meant it as a compliment.

This is the thing for me with Uther.  He may have ruled by fear, but he also ruled quite strongly for a long time.  The Uther we saw was not always ruthless.  He could be, but he wasn’t only that way.  When Arthur took over he was immediately seen by enemies as a weak opening because Uther ruled so firmly.  Yes, it wasn’t always fairly, but he didn’t allow chaos and politically he really took charge of the kingdom.  Arthur has struggled with that.  And Arthur too goes off so much that he’s not always ruling the kingdom.  Guinevere is.

Without a doubt to me Uther loved Ygraine and Arthur.  Now it could be argued it wasn’t the best kind of love.  But I do think Uther really tried.  I think Uther’s motivation for his actions was often to protect his son.  Uther, without a doubt, loved Arthur and protected him when he could.  I have a feeling his love for Ygraine went very deep too.  He never remarried.  He barely had any other relationships when he was older.

I do think there was a lot of darkness in Uther’s ghost.  The whole Arthur finds the magical woman, felt a bit contrived to me.  Uther seemed almost conjured by something.  I don’t know if he was darker because of some trick of magic, but something seemed off.  The woman seemed good, but why would she give Arthur the horn?  Right around the time of Uther’s death memorial.  Something was kind of weird about that.  And Uther was a little less complex as a ghost after Arthur released him by looking back.  So maybe he was darker because of that.  I don’t know.

I just know for certain, Uther was always a complex character.  I never saw him as just evil.  Anthony brilliantly never played him just that way.  So having Uther back, even as a ghost, thrilled me.  And Anthony never disappointed with how he conveyed him.

You’re defending a character who committed ethnic cleansing and genocide against several ethnic groups and species… with the idea that everything he did was out of love for his family?

Uther attempted to wipe all magical beings off the face of the kingdom because he couldn’t own up to the fact that his recklessness and disregard for magical laws caused the death of his wife. It’s not even clear whether she knew that he used magic on her to conceive a child without her consent—and it’s certainly not clear whether she knew what she was giving up. He systematically spent decades persecuting magical beings (hunting them down, burning people in pyres, hanging them, drowning children, decimating an entire race of dragons) for something that he caused. He enacted laws so that he could legally kill these people and creatures, and incited hatred against them amongst non-magical beings/commonfolk.

He didn’t just make a few mistakes. It wasn’t like he cheated on his wife or became an alcoholic and neglected his kids or accidentally ran over a driud with his horse and carriage that one time. It wasn’t like, “oops, I made a mistake and accidentally committed genocide.”

It’s alright if you like a character despite the fact that they’re a terrible person, but many of these responses sound like a complete oversimplification of his crimes against humanity. Uther’s ghost came back and was terrible because that’s exactly the sort of person he always was, in spite of his supposed love for his family.

Even some of the most brutal dictators were capable of displaying love and affection to their loved ones (who they deemed acceptable and superior) because they were human after all, and that’s what made them dangerous.

#don’t worry y’all it’s just genocide no big deal #he wasn’t always so ruthless i mean in the hours that he wasn’t trying to ethnically cleanse camelot #he enjoyed horseback riding long walks around the castle and locking either one of his two children in dungeons for their benefit #ask me how much sympathy i have for uther #absolutely no fucks given over here #i hope he’s having tea and crumpets in hell #uther pendragon #merlin #queue
